South Africa Alpha Capital Management Limited (“SAACM”) is an investment manager, founded on 10 December 2007 in Bermuda. Initially incorporated to offer South African hedge fund managers a platform to launch a dollar version of their local hedge funds, it has today grown into an efficient, cost effective platform offering for investment advisors globally.
SAACM manages two fund platforms, the South Africa Alpha SPC, a Cayman Islands segregated portfolio company and the South Africa Alpha PCC, a Guernsey protected cell company. SAACM manages the entire set-up of fund on these platforms and provides on-going operational support which includes director liaison, legal document update and key service provider management.

Mark Fagan
Mark Fagan joined HighWater Limited (HighWater) in June 2011. HighWater’s core business is the provision of independent directors and related services to the alternative investment industry. Prior to joining HighWater, Mark spent a year at RBC Dominion Securities as an Investment Advisor and the preceding 5 years at Butterfield Bank as a Portfolio Manager and Performance Analyst. Mark also worked for 5 years in Fund Accounting at both HSBC Financial Services and Butterfield Fund Services in the Cayman Islands. Originally from South Africa where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Coopers and Lybrand, Mark has over 15 years experience in the financial services industry, working in London and South Africa before relocating to the Cayman Islands. Mark holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Accounting from the University of the Witwatersrand, and is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants. He is a holder of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charter and has obtained the Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement (CIPM). He is an active volunteer for the CFA Institute and is Past President of the CFA Society of the Cayman Islands.
Stuart Lacey
Stuart Lacey is the President and CEO of SHL Capital. He is also founder and CEO of Trunomi, which is reinventing the way customer information is collected, managed and shared through a technology platform that streamlines Know Your Customer (KYC) and mobile identity verification using a revolutionary consent-based data sharing platform. Stuart has more than 20 years of leadership experience. He has also been managing director of a global financial services firm, with diversified operations including regulated brokerage, custody, trust, asset management, fund administration and corporate services divisions. He is a certified compliance officer and money laundering reporting officer, and has published articles and spoken at industry events about jurisdictional prudence. Lacey is a multiple award-winning member of the Young Presidents Organization, as well as a member of the Young Entrepreneur’s Council and The Institute of Directors. Lacey earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and International Relations from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Maree Wilms
Maree Wilms has over 15 years of experience working in the hedge fund industry. She started her career at Adelphi Capital, a London based Asset Manager, working in their operational team. She was involved in launching the Small Cap Fund and the Emerging Markets Fund and assisted in raising capital for these funds. She was then appointed to the investment team and worked as an Analyst on the Adelphi European Long Short Equity Fund, starting out as a generalist covering mid to large cap UK & European stocks before specialising in the retail, food and luxury goods sector. Upon returning to South Africa she joined South Africa Alpha Capital Management. Maree graduated from London South Bank University with a 1st class LLB (Hons) degree. She holds an Investment Management Certificate (IMC) issued by the CFA Society (UK).

Jonathan Hertz CIO After qualifying as an actuary, Jonathan was appointed managing director of Safrican, a leading low cost insurer in South Africa before joining Peregrine Holdings Limited (a publicly listed company on the JSE) in 2000 as Chief Operating Officer. In 2006, Jonathan co-founded Caveo Fund Solutions, a fund of hedge fund business, as a joint venture between Peregrine and Alexander Forbes. In May 2008, he founded South Africa Alpha Capital Management (“SAACM”). Jonathan returned to Peregrine as the Group CEO in April 2013, successfully driving the business for more than four years, before returning to SAACM as CIO in August 2017.

Sally Cousins Compliance & Operations Sally Cousins joined SAACM in November 2015 with 10 years’ experience in hedge fund operations. Prior to joining SAACM, Sally was an Operational Due Diligence Analyst at Cube Capital, a UK asset management company. She reviewed and monitored the operational infrastructure of hedge funds into which the Cube Fund of Fund invested. Past experience includes employment as a back office analyst at a European hedge fund and as a fund accountant at Citco Fund Services in Ireland.
